VMware: IT Management Optimized for the Virtual Data Center

In July 2009, EMC introduced Ionix – a solution spanning network, applications, systems and storage management. The introdcution of Ionix as a new family name replaces prior product line names associated with EMC’s resource management portfolio, such as Infra, Smarts and Voyence – most of which were acquired through a series of targeted acquistions over the last five years. However, Ionix represents much more than a new name – it solidifies a framework for EMC’s innovative architecture optimised to support more dynamic, virtualised infrastructure and service environments, including cloud-related models. This Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) report introduces the Ionix portfolio and achitecture in market and industry contexts.
